U Series hammers use materials specifically selected for each model to provide optimum tone production, response and long-term durability. A damping mechanism, formerly used only in grand pianos, prevents the fallboard from dropping abruptly onto the keyboard, guarding against accidental injury or damage.

For over half a century, Yamaha has been one of the few manufacturers in the world that consistently engages in the critical tasks of piano production, such as the procurement of materials used as well as the processing and assembly of parts. Yamaha grand pianos are crafted from wood carefully selected and collected from all over the world, and parts carefully finished one by one by skilled craftsmen—using only materials and parts that reflect Yamaha's ideals and commitments, under the strictest and most thorough quality control processes.
