With his 'Douze Préludes' op. 36 and 'Trois Nocturnes' op. 35 composed between 1914 and 1916, Vierne followed in the Romantic piano tradition, whilst lending the historic models that special sound between elegance and expressivity, as is characteristic for French music of the period. The editor of the volume is the distinguished pianist Olivier Gardon. As a performer and scholar, he has researched Louis Vierne's piano music for over twenty years, of which he has an unparalleled knowledge. This can be convincingly heard on Olivier Gardon's complete CD recording of 1995.
