Dr. Joan B. Heels has an extensive background as a performer and a teacher of singing. Her beginning vocal studies were taken with Flora Everett and Margaret Avard Wickett, both of Hamilton, Ontario. She continued her vocal studies in Montreal, the U.S.A., and Austria, with her primary teachers being Pauline Donalda, Bernard Diamant, Helen Hodam, Burton Garlinghouse, Pierre Bernac, Fritz Lehmann, and William Eddy. While studying with Weldon Kilburn, she garnered a silver medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music for Grade 9 Piano. She has earned several degrees and diplomas including a Ph.D., M.A., B.Music, B.A., F.T.C.L., L.T.C.L., and A.R.C.T. Special Diploma.

This manual features progressive sight singing examples in different keys correlating with both the Royal Conservatory of Music Vocal Examinations, and Conservatory Canada Vocal Syllibi Sight Singing requirements.
Many of the examples will suffice the requirements of other Music Examining institutions, such as Trinity College of Music, and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Universities and colleges will find this manual useful for their sight singing and music dictation classes.
