This book provides an excellent resource for bass clef instrument players who wish to improve their sight-reading capabilities. Exercises are organized in increasing complexity, and are all diatonic. Time signatures range from 2/4 to 12/8, with 2, 3 and 4 beats per bar in both simple and compound meters. The pitch material is entirely diatonic, allowing the user to read the exercises in any key signature. The exercises are intentionally aimless and difficult to internalize, designed to help the user process raw musical data. These materials can be used to practice sight-reading, or with any other exercises that require reading material. For those wishing to further develop their sight-reading skills, this book is an ideal supplement. Suggestions for use include playing each exercise in all 15 key signatures, using a metronome on weak beats, creating patterns in one hand while reading in the other, and writing in articulations, dynamics, bowing, sticking or fingering. With this collection, the possibilities are truly limitless.
