Argentinean tango composer, Bandoneon player and arranger Astor Piazzolla’s oeuvre revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed ‘nuevo tango’, incorporating elements from jazz and classical music andnew instruments such as the Saxophone and Electric Guitar. The leaner, more fluid musical style with simpler, more continuous forms is exemplified perfectly in Libertango. The title, which merges the words‘libertad’ (liberty) and ‘tango’, symbolizes Piazzolla's break from classical tango to tango nuevo.
Originally composed for the bandoneon, here Libertango is transcribed for solo Piano by RossanoSportiello. This fast paced (quarter note = 152) piece by the world's foremost composer of tango music is a guaranteed success with audiences and performers alike!
